700 STUDENT LEADERS RETREAT TO SONORA MOUNTAINS
SONORA, Calif.; Nov. 6 — Students involved in Circle K International (CKI), the world’s largest student-led collegiate service organization, hosted their annual conference over the weekend of Nov. 6 at the Old Oak Ranch campgrounds with over 700 students present.
College and universities in attendance included the UN Reno, UC Berkeley, UC Los Angeles, UC Riverside, CSU Fullerton, CSU Sacramento, and Orange Coast College.
Held in Sonora every year, Fall Training Conference embodies the organization’s three tenets of service, leadership, and fellowship. It was planned by Claire Lee, a fourth-year at UC Berkeley studying cognitive science and computer science.
From personal and professional development workshops led by CKI members to performance skits, general sessions to competitive games and talent acts, Fall Training Conference 2016 was packed with activities. Featured workshops included leadership skills, service projects, professional development techniques, mindfulness skills, and others.
“FTC is an important part of our organization because it not only welcomes new members, but also inspires our returning members to continue to dedicate themselves to service, leadership, and fellowship,” Lee said.
The conference also incorporated a service project aligned with its initiative of conservation. On-site, there were various projects, such as crafting plastic mats for the homeless, recycling t-shirts into reusable bags and pillow cases, and decorating plastic water bottles and turning them into planters to be donated to children in hospitals, schools, and community gardens.
