Crazy Kompetition for Infants 2018 Playbook
Crazy Kompetition for Infants (CKI) is an annual event that raises money for Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP) through a series of fun, competitive mini-games and relays. The event is held in two different regions: one for the northern half of the District and one for the southern half. Welcome to CKI North & CKI South.
CKI North will be held on Saturday, October 6th at Tahoe Park in Sacramento, CA.
CKI South will be held on Saturday October 20th at Ralph B. Clark Regional Park in Buena Park, CA.
Both events will run from 8AM-4PM.
Teams of six members (with the option of one alternate member) from various schools across the CNH District will be divided into groups and play rounds of six mini-games, earning points to push them to the top of the competition. PEDIATRIC TRAUMA PROGRAM
Pediatric trauma remains the leading cause of death and injury among children ages 14 and under in the United States. To address this concern, the Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation established the Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP) in 1994. PTP is funded solely by contributions from Kiwanis clubs and members and by the fundraising efforts of our Service Leadership Programs. It focuses on reducing and treating accidental injuries as well as helping to prevent the deaths of children and infants throughout the nation.
The CNH Foundation takes a holistic approach to prevent pediatric trauma by providing community outreach, education, and safety materials to families living in the communities we share; by providing grants to the Kiwanis Family to assist them in their efforts to reduce trauma and death; by providing grants to our partner hospitals, which enable them to reach out to their communities with their own PTP projects and campaigns; by offering advanced pediatric training for doctors, nurses, and first responders; and by purchasing specialized pediatric medical equipment.

From I-680 North/I-80 East
(1) Merge onto I-680 North toward Sacramento.
(2) Take exit 71-A onto I-80 East
(3) Keep left at the fork for US-50 East and follow signs for Sacramento/South Lake Tahoe.
(4) Take exit 8A for 59th St.
(5) Turn right onto 59th St.
(6) Turn right onto Broadway St.
(7) Turn left onto 58th St.

There is parking all around the park—remember to get here early to get a close spot!

Destination: Ralph B. Clark Regional Park, Buena Park, CA
From I-5 North
(1) Take exit 116 toward Beach Blvd./CA-39 North
(2) Turn right onto Auto Center Dr.
(3) Turn left onto CA-39 North/Beach Blvd.
(4) Turn right onto Rosecrans Ave.
(5) Turn right into Ralph B. Clark Regional Park.
(6) After entering park, turn right and follow road to event site.
From I-5 South
(1) Take exit 116 for CA-39/Beach Blvd.
(2) Turn left onto CA-39/Beach Blvd.

(4) After entering park, turn right and follow road to event site.
Parking is $5 per car entry and must be paid in cash upon entrance of the park. However, there is parking all around the park so remember to get here early to get a close spot!

The total amount of teams participating will be split into six groups. The division into groups is to improve efficiency and decrease the wait time between games.
The event will have six stations—one station for each of the five games (described in a subsequent part of this playbook) and one workshop station for attendees to learn more about PTP and the CNH Foundation. Teams will move from station to station until they have completed all six in total. The top eight teams will move on to Quarterfinals, and the top four teams from the Quarterfinals will battle it out in the Semifinals. From there, the top two teams will compete in an epic finale to determine the winner of Crazy Kompetition for Infants.
Please be sure to dress comfortably and wear closed-toe shoes. Additionally, be aware of your body and its needs, so drink plenty of water and stay hydrated!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
If I attend a northern Circle K school (in Capital, Golden Gate, Sunset, or northern Central Coast), am I able to attend CKI South and vice versa?
Once the following criteria is met, an individual may be able to attend the out-of-region Crazy Kompetition:
- The member must request explicit permission from his/her club’s Kiwanis Advisor.
- This explicit permission must be emailed to <email@example.com>, <firstname.lastname@example.org>, and <email@example.com> with the following details:
- An explanation of travel arrangements to and from your place of residence to your destination; and
- A detailed account of housing arrangements when you arrive at your destination.
If those criteria are met, then the district may grant you approval.
Please be aware that this is an approval process. Submission of these details DOES NOT guarantee automatic approval. Members that receive approval may participate in both Crazy Kompetitions. If approved, traveling must not be engaged during extreme driving hours, namely 10:00PM-6:00AM.

Who needs to sign a waiver?
ALL interested members MUST sign a waiver. This includes participants, judges, spectators, and on-site medics. Early Registration participants should mail in waivers along with the Early Registration document and check.
Do members need to be dues-paid to attend?
All attendees must either be (1) dues-paid members of Kiwanis or Circle K; (2) prospective Circle K-ers who are currently enrolled at an institution where a chartered or chartering club is located; or (3) given explicit permission from District Administrator Mondo Velazquez to attend.
How many people are in a team? How many males and females?
There is a maximum of six members per team with the option of one alternate player. There is no specific gender ratio.
How many teams can my club register?
Your club may register as many teams as they wish! Simply copy and paste more tables in the Registration Word Doc to register more teams.
Can members sign up to be individuals competitors?
Yes! This also applies to incomplete teams that do not have six members. Simply list the members that lack a team (or incomplete teams) in one of the team registrations and submit their waivers and registration fees. The Finance and Fundraising Committee will then combine all incomplete teams and individual players onsite to maximize the number of people participating.
Can I be on a team with people from other schools?
Yes! Teams do not need to be comprised of all members from just one school. Bond with your fellow Circle K-ers! Just make sure to have each member submit registration through their respective school and to indicate on the registration form that they are on a team comprised of different team members.
What if I want to go to Crazy Kompetition but don’t want to compete?
We have three options for those who wish to attend but not participate:
(1) Sign up to be a judge! Judges earn service hours for their time in helping the games run smoothly.
(2) Serve as an on-site medic and help assist members with any injuries they may receive during the event. Medics must be first-aid and CPR certified.
(3) Be a spectator. Cheer on your teams for moral support and show CNH Circle K the passion you have for this event!
Can clubs make changes to their teams after they have submitted registration?
We understand that quarter schools only have a few weeks to advertise Crazy Komp to their members, so we will allow for team switches to happen on-site. However, we request that a club representative (eg. Club President or Treasurer) provide a list of all finalized teams and members in attendance on-site.
Will lunch be provided?
Yes! Lunch is provided with registration; we will also offer vegan and vegetarian options for those who are interested. Snacks and water will be provided during the day to keep your energy levels high!
#1: Survivor Relay
Description: In this relay game, all six members will participate to complete the tasks as quickly as they can.
Step #1: Player 1 will run through a set of hula hoops, alternating their feet in each hoop. After touching the table, this player will run back and tag Player 2.
Step #2: Player 2 will jump rope to the table and back while Players 3 and 4 swing the rope.
Step #3: Player 5 and 6 will work together to push a ball, using their head, across the field to the other side, wheelbarrow style and then run back
Step #4: Player 1 will then run to the table and complete the survivor style puzzle
Step #5: Time is stopped when all team members are sitting on the ground.
- If Player 2 makes a mistake while jumping rope, they do not have to restart at the beginning of the relay. However, they must stop and restart jumping from the point they made the mistake.
- Points will be given based on the amount of time it took to complete the relay.
#2: Blind Mice
Description: In this game, all six team members will participate to collect as many correctly colored balls within a given time frame. Various colored balls will be found scattered on the floor and in buckets in a designated arena.
Step #1: Each team will be assigned one specific ball color, and team members will be paired up into three pairs. Each member in a pair will be designated Player 1 or Player 2.
Step #2: Player 1 will be blindfolded, and Player will be verbally directing them to pick up balls of their assigned color in the arena. Player 1 is allowed to pick up a maximum of two balls only.
Step #3: After Player 1 has picked up one or two balls, Player 2 will then direct them to drop the balls into their designated bucket.
Step #4: Both Player 1 and Player 2 must go back and tag the next pair to go into the arena and pick up balls.
- Player 1 and 2 must tag the next team after picking up one or two balls.
- Player 2 may not physically direct Player 1 to the balls, or touch any of the balls.
- Players are not permitted to push other players.
- Points will be determined based on how many correctly colored balls each team has in their bucket after a given time. No points will be given for any ball that is not the color of the team’s assigned color.
#3: Cone Reflex
Description: In this game, all six team members will participate in this test of reflexes in response to verbal cues.
Step #1: Two teams will line up facing each other in any order they choose. Members will squat in front of a cone placed in front of them.
Step #2: One judge will be calling out cues (eg. toes, knees, floor, cone) where members’ hands should be placed. For example, if a judge calls out, “Shoulders,” members must place their hands on their own shoulders as quickly as possible.
Step #3: When the judge calls out, “Cone”, players must grab the cone in front of them as fast as they can.
- Players must follow the judge’s cues.
- Players cannot grab the cone until the cue “cone” is called.
- If a player fails to follow these rules, they will forfeit their cone to the other team.
- In the event either player fails to secure the cone, they will go again until one person secures the cone.
- Points will be given to each team based on the number of times they were able to successfully secure the cone before the other team.
#4: Candy Catchers
Description: In this game, all six team members will participate to catch as much candy in their buckets as possible in a given time period.
Step #1: Team members will be paired up into three pairs. Each member in a pair will be designated Player 1 or Player 2.
Step #2: Player 1 will be blindfolded and given a bucket of candy. They will be standing with their back to Player 2.
Step #3: Player 1 will then throw the candy behind them and Player 2 must catch them using their bucket.
Step #4: After time is called, the next pair in each team will compete.
- Player 1 must keep their back to Player 2 at all times. They cannot hand Player 2 the candy.
- Only one piece of candy can be thrown at a time.
- Player 2 must catch the candy using their bucket. They may not touch the candy using their hands, and they may not pick up candy from the floor if they are dropped.
- Points will be given only for candy in Player 2’s bucket when time is called.
- Points will be given based on the number of pieces of candy obtained per team at the end of the third rotation.
#5: Spelling Search
Description: In this game, all 6 members will participate to gather as many eggs as possible and spell out as many words as they can.
Step #1: Easter eggs will be scattered across a designated arena and will each contain a letter (with a point value assigned to it).
Step #2: One at a time, each team member will be allowed to run and grab an egg from the arena.
Step #3: After grabbing an egg, the player will run back and tag the next player to grab an egg.
Step #4: After eggs have been gathered, teams must use the letters they have in order to spell out as many words as they can, with each letter being used only once.
- A player may only grab one egg at at a time.
- Players may open the eggs as they collect them.
- Collected letters can only be used once.
- Points will only be given for words that can be found in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary.
- Teams will be scored according to the point value of each word they create. Points will also be given for each word formed by teams.
#6: Face Off
Description: This challenge will require all team members to answer a series of questions based on the Pediatric Trauma Program workshop as well as trivia from the CNH District.
Step #1: Each team will stand in a single-file line facing the same direction. The player at the front of the line for each team will be given a whiteboard and marker.
Step #2: Judges will ask a question using information from the PTP workshop or general CNH District trivia. The player at the front of the line will write the answer on their whiteboard but keep it hidden until the judges ask them to reveal their answers.
Step #3: The whiteboard and marker will be passed to the next player in line, who will answer the next question. The player in the front will rotate to the back of the line.
Step #4: The game will continue until time runs out.
- The player answering the question may not receive or ask for help from their team members or any other team.
- Points will be given for each correct answer given.
- Points will be deducted if any of the rules are broken.
