UNIVERSITY STUDENTS VOLUNTEER LOCALLY DURING HOLIDAY

ANAHEIM, Calif, Nov. 23, 2016 –– This Thanksgiving season, over 50 college students from around the Orange County area teamed-up with We Give Thanks to help those in need. Volunteers participated in a service event that culminated in distributing meals to hundreds of people on Thanksgiving Day.

“We Give Thanks is an annual event hosted in Anaheim, CA that serves one purpose: to give back to the less fortunate,” said Jesus Pelayo, a senior at CSU Fullerton. “For the volunteers, it is a three day undertaking that includes a lot of prep work.”

Volunteers were members of Circle K International (CKI) a collegiate community service organization from California California State University, Fullerton; Golden West College; Orange Coast College; Saddleback College; University of California, Irvine and Cypress College.

“We, alongside hundreds of other volunteers, claim a shift and split into two groups,” said Pelayo. “One group handled vegetable prep which includes chopping hundreds of carrots, onions, and more while the other tackled preparing hundreds of turkeys.”

The mission of We Give Thanks is to enhance the well being of the less fortunate in Southern California by making ongoing efforts and contributions to their well-being.

Circle K International, founded in 1934, is the world’s largest student-led collegiate service organization. Sponsored by Kiwanis International, its members promote service, leadership, and fellowship through all activities. CKI has over 13,000 members worldwide, with over 3,200 alone in the California-Nevada-Hawaii District, formed in 1954.
