Members of the Month - May 2008

SDSU
Leonard Pizarro is our member of the month for May. Even though he is our newest member, he stepped up to help out at our Kiwanian’s biggest event, as well as a number of previous events. He has also come out of his shell a great deal since he’s joined the club, and we hope to continue seeing him grow in our club.

Sac State
Erica Ryan stepped up to the plate this month by become our new treasurer. A couple of days before March 17th, our club got an email from our Kiwanians asking if we would like to help them with a car wash project. We would be washing a bus and some cars for a retirement home and is there any possible way to get 4-6 members? It was short notice and finals were next week but Erica stepped up and got in contact with the retirement home to set a time and then emailed or called every member of our club to get people to go. She has been an excellent addition to our board and is always efficient.

Whittier
Ellie Maas is one of the members that deserves special recognition this month. She was able to raise enough money to have a “Genocide Awareness Day” at Whittier College on May 4th. Even though it was unfortunate that many people did not attend she did an excellent job!

UC Davis
Ivette Reyes has been a truly active and dedicated member for the past FIVE years! Not only does she participate in our service projects, but she also helped us sell smoothies during the Memorial Day weekend when we needed help the most! UC Davis hosted their first ever Dance Marathon, and she attended that as well. Ivette exemplifies a quality member, and we will miss her when she graduates and leaves us!

PCC
In the month of May, Brian Wong has stood out beyond the rest. He was the main planner for our end of the year banquet. He help with finding the location and in charge of what food to buy for the dinner. He has put countless hours into planning this event and the results were terrific.

UCLA
Melody Hsu – Music isn’t the same if you don’t have rhythm… and melody! Our very own first year grad student has been so wonderful, of course she deserves being Member of the Week! Not only did she participate in events throughout our “48 Hours of Service,” but she has to bus it all the way up from outside Wilshire (that’s farrrr). We definitely appreciate her strong commitment to serving the community!

Cindy Bui – Bui bui bui bui, rockin’ everywhere! She certainly is Miss New Bui, with how much she has committeed to our club. Cindy was one of the few that walked quite a lot during UCLA’s “Relay For Life,” and had to sip on a ton of coffee to stay awake during our “48 Hours of Service.” She also got trained early for our APEX Youth Olympics, so those dirt marks on her jeans show how involved she has been!

Rahul Krishnan – Rahuuullllllll, this crazy kid has been spotted all over the place this month! Rahul came along for the singing ride during our “Karaoke Social,” survived a night full of Blair Witch Project-like settings at the camping trip, and ended by reading to elementary students on a Saturday morning. Oh, and did we mention he’s one of our tallest members? Way to go!

Gary Chan – We’re fans of the chan… are you? Gary has been with our club throughout the year, and has really stepped it up this month despite the craziness of midterms! He has helped our club plant trees around Los Angeles, shared some words of wisdom through Disney films, and has been a committed member to our newly established Technology Committee.

UNR
Christina Le is the outstanding member for May for UNR. By coming to almost every event this she has shown that she deserves to have the title of outstanding member. Whether it’s a service event or just for fun she brings a great attitude and will keep you laughing.

UCI
This month’s member of the month is Judd Parco. As only a freshman, he has been active within the club during the whole year. He has attended many service projects and frequently goes to Soup Kitchen and has been an outstanding contribution to our club

CSUF
Brent Powers has been an outstanding member eventhough he’s not president he has shows his passion for cki by going to the socials and service projects. He tries to help anyone who needs his help. ? so thanks brent!

UCSD
David Seto has been a wonderful member by going to many events this past month. He has spent countless hours with Circle K--service events, fundraiser, and K-family events. He also takes the initiative to drive other people to these projects. Even though he is involved in other activities, he manages to find time with Circle K every week. He truly deserves to be our MOM!

UCB
Gloria Lu was an awesome member this past month! She helped out and chaired the LeConte Work Day with Berkeley Kiwanis! What an amazing job! Thanks so much for the help and dedication, Gloria!

East Bay
Andrew Aranda is our new member of the month. He has shown dedication this past month by helping out the club with different things. He has attended many interclub, service projects, and helped with our slide show for banquet. He has also taken up the task of creating our new website and is working to improve it. Andrew is a valued member.

UCR
Markus Jones has been involved in our organization since he first joined exactly one year ago. Recently he has become active once again by attending Relay for Life at La Sierra High School for the entire time, racking up 29 service hours in the process. For a member to stay for the entire event despite the long hours definitely means his strong dedication to service! (For the picture attached, Markus is the one wearing the Energizer bunny ears awarded to him for constantly walking around the track.)

De Anza
Mohanmmed “Philosopher” Rajeh – Seriously, meet Mo. Once you talk to him, you’ll agree, he just blows your mind. His voice flows lyrically with hidden double meanings. About the kindest guy I’ve ever met, a true practitioner of altruism. Watch him rise and become a pillar for De Anza and for Circle K. Did I mention how cool he was? I asked him I wanted to take a picture of him for the website, but he smiled at me and said, “I don’t do pictures.” So when you happen to be at De Anza, meet Mo.

UNLV
This month, one single member has devoted a handful of her time to putting together what is probably going to be the most beneficial fundraiser that our club will have for a long time. She went out and talked to representatives of the company that will be aiding us in this fundraiser and she has also kept all interested members posted on any updates she received by sending out e-mails when necessary, making phone calls, and establishing rules and regulations needed for the fundraiser. She has done a truly amazing job this month and for that we proudly select Liberty Ringor as our member of the month.

These Members ROCK!
