Fundraising Spotlight

What is Fundraising Spotlight?

The purpose of the bimonthly Fundraising Spotlight is to recognize a well-organized fundraiser hosted by a CNH Circle K club that raises money for one of our three District Fundraising Initiatives.

For the month of January, the fundraising spotlights go to UC Berkeley and Truckee Meadow College!

Fundraising Spotlight: Reno's One Night Stand

On September 30th, 2011, Truckee Meadow College Circle K held a benefit concert at Studio on Fourth to raise money for the three District Fundraising Initiatives (DFI): Project Eliminate, Not For Sale, and Pediatric Trauma Program. Since the inception of this idea in April, the fundraising chair has worked hard throughout the entire summer to plan the event, featuring different genres of local bands in Reno. According to club president Christian Shearer, “The planning was hectic because we were trying to get all the bands to confirmed and sign the contract, it took a lot of patience and perseverance but we managed through it.” The event turned out to be a huge success! TMCC Circle K invited band performers Keyrings, The Underachievers, Jeff Bernatt, and Lucas Young and the Wilderness. The club officers not only managed to fill every seat with local community members and friends from Capital Division Circle K, but they also talked about each DFI onstage after each band performed. Reno’s One Night Stand raised over $300, to be split evenly toward the three DFIs. This was a huge accomplishment for the club, considering it was their first time organizing a large scale event. One thing TMCC Circle K learned from their benefit concert was that: “Preparation is key, because if you’re prepared, you can definitely pull through any problems.” Article written by FiFun Committee member Nam Hoang

Fundraising Spotlight: UC Berkeley's Garage Sale

UC Berkeley Circle K held their annual Garage Sale fundraiser, an event open to the public every September. Fundraising Chair Grace Go and fellow club members had been busy colleting items for the Garage Sale from May through August. Anyone could donate items for the sale, but UCB Circle K’ers also asked graduating students to donate their unwanted goods and furniture to sell at the event as opposed to throwing it away; Kiwanians helped out in the donations too. According to Grace Go, “One Kiwanian gave a ski simulator exercise machine. It was the most interesting item!” The event took place over the course of an entire weekend in September, yet it took only one day to plan! Grace expressed how “easygoing” and “busy” the event turned out and how interesting it was to see what cool items they obtained. UC Berkeley Circle K advertised for the Garage Sale as much as posisble with posters, Facebook, Craiglist, Yelp, and Reddit Ads. Overall, UC Berkeley Circle K raise an awe-worthy $1400 for the three District Fundraising Initiatives (DFIs) - Project Eliminate, Not For Sale, and Pediatric Trauma Program. This event was simple yet highly successful! Article written by FiFun Committee member Triana Crighton
