Running For Office
How do I get to be on the District Board?
Elections are held for the voting positions of Governor, Secretary, Treasurer and Lt. Governors at the District Convention in March. The Governor then appoints the nonvoting, chair positions, including chairs for Awards, District Convention, Fall Training Conference, Kiwanis Family, Membership Development & Education, Publications, Service, and Technology. The term for an elected position is from April 1 through March 31 of the following year. Candidates must fill out an application, provide an official verification of enrollment and submit a signed service agreement. Forms will be available in December or January.
How do I find out more about the positions?
Talk to the current position holder! In addition, there is a seminar at the Fall Training Conference. In February, there will be Candidates’ Education Sessions, one in Northern California and one in Southern California, dates and location to be determined.
Who is eligible to run or be appointed?
In order to run or be appointed, you must be a dues-paid member in good standing with a club in good standing, enrolled at least half time. For District-wide positions, you must be from a club in Cal-Nev-Ha; for Lt. Governor, you must be from a club in that division at the time of election or appointment. You must maintain your status as a student and a dues-paid member in order to continue in the position.
What if I'm going to transfer?
If you transfer, you have 30 days after the start of classes to join the club at the new institution or charter a new club.
What is required for each position?
Each position has a service agreement (like a contract) that lists the requirements for the position, but the duties are primarily described in the District Bylaws and the District Operating Procedures. The Board sets goals annually that usually include additional commitments.
What about Circle K International?
Elections for the International Board are held at the International Convention. The International President appoints committee chairs.
