Dear California-Nevada-Hawai’i District of Circle K International,

Our District stands in solidarity against the systemic racism, injustices, police brutality, and all other forms of oppression that serve to undermine Black, Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC). We are heartbroken and outraged by the wrongful murders of numerous members within our nation’s Black community, including George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Stephon Clark, and far too many other Black lives to list. What we are experiencing now is the result of decades of such injustices; we simply cannot and will not remain silent. We must collectively work to effectuate change within the various communities we serve.

While now is a time for grief and anger, it is also a time for action. Upon joining this organization, all of our members pledged through our objectives and tenets to build better citizens and communities. We cannot pride ourselves and claim to be a racially diverse and inclusive organization if we are not able to find solidarity and mobilize BIPOC. We need to fight and discuss the pertinent issues of systemic racism. In Angela Davis’ words, “In a racist society, it is not enough to be non-racist, we must be anti-racist.”

As a District, we are being called to serve and to lead. Use your voice and your platforms to amplify the voices of our Black counterparts and to speak out against systemic racism and all forms of oppression. Go out to your communities and serve by signing petitions, donating, educating yourself, having meaningful conversations, or protesting against the injustices that we see in our communities today and will continue to see if we do not take action. We are the leaders of tomorrow, and what we do now will impact the future.

California-Nevada-Hawai’i District of Circle K International serves to empower all of our members to keep fighting for equality, justice, and for the realization of humanity’s potential. This is only our first step towards the right direction. Black lives matter. Forever and always.

Yours in Service,

2020-2021 Cal-Nev-Ha District Board of Circle K International
